Deep Tissue- helps relieve severe pain or tension in the deeper layers of muscle and the connective tissue or fascia. Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who experience constant pain, are involved in sports, such as athletes, and patients who have sustained physical injury. Deep tissue massage may include some stretching, some range of motion exercises and structural manipulation, which helps to unwind the tension residing in your body's myofascial system, restoring the body to its natural balance, alignment, length, and ease. Deep tissue massage also focuses on trigger points that may be causing local pain or refered pain and other sensations, such as headaches, in other parts of the body.
Relaxation Massage- a relaxing and flowing massage that focuses on the superficial muscles, helping to increase the flow of oxygen in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. The five basic strokes of a Swedish massage are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber) and vibration/shaking. All strokes travel in the direction towards the heart, this supports the movement of fluid back to the heart. Swedish massage is helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, stress and improving poor circulation, flexibility and range of motion. The term "Swedish" massage is not really known in the country of Sweden, where it is called "classic massage".
Sports - helps those who have tense muscles and often sustained injuries. Sports massage can help to lengthen and broaden those over-trained muscles and prevent re-injury of damaged tissues. It was founded in Greece around 130AD, performed on Greek gladiators. This is a great massage for athletes who push there bodies to the limit. The strokes used are compression, effleurage, petrissage, friction, vibration, tapotement and stretching. There are 3 categories for Sports Massage Therapy:
Event (Pre & Post)- massage usually lasts 10-20min. Pre-event is used to prepare the body for exercise. Post-event is used to cool it down.
Maintenance Massage- lasts 60-90mins in duration and is used for recovery from training for athletes.
Restorative Massage- has no set duration but focuses on rehabilitating injuries to get the athlete ready for more training or competitions. Pregnancy Massage/Pre-Natal- This is a massage that is specifically for the 'mother-to-be'. Pillows and padding are used to properly position the mother's body and provide the support necessary while lying on their side. This type of massage can be used to help relieve aches and pains, especially in the back and help decrease swelling in the legs and feet. This can be very beneficial for the mother to help reduce stress, anxiety or depression during pregnancy. Proper Swedish and acupressure massage techniques are used.
All massage treatments are therapeutic only. The massage will not involve sexual advances at any time or anything of that nature.
