On Apr. 24, 2020, The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed nine new Covid-19 clusters in Singapore.
Massage parlour among nine new clusters announced on Apr. 24
One of the new clusters involved the East Coast outlet of the massage parlour Natureland, located at 907 East Coast Road.
MOH announced on Apr. 24 that six of the earlier confirmed cases were discovered to be linked to the cluster.
On Apr. 25, 2020, Natureland Group put up a statement on their website, revealing more details on the situation.
"It is important for our customers to know how we handled the situation as it happened", the statement read.
Customer showed no symptoms during visit, later tested positive
Natureland Group said that they had received a call from MOH on Apr. 1, informing them that one of their customers, a Vietnamese Employment Pass holder had tested positive for Covid-19.
The customer had visited the massage parlour's East Coast outlet on Mar. 19, and had shown no symptoms on that day.
MOH then instructed Natureland to have the therapist who saw to the customer to stay home until Apr. 2, 2020, 14 days after the customer had visited the outlet.
Another staff member fell sick on Mar. 30, 2020, and was ordered to stay home until further notice.
All of the massage parlour's outlets were closed on Apr. 7 due to the circuit-breaker measures requiring non-essential businesses to close during the period.
Five staff tested positive for Covid-19 upon further testing, between Apr. 9 to Apr. 21.
The five are:
- A male Singaporean in his 50s
- A female Permanent Resident in her 40s
- Two male Malaysian Work Permit holder in their 40s
- One Chinese Work Permit holder in his 40s
Two of them have been discharged from local hospitals on Apr. 20 and Apr. 22 respectively, while the remaining three of them are still in hospital with mild symptoms.
