There are few things more relaxing and indulging than a Mayan Clay Massage, a spa experience beyond anything else that is designed to energize, hydrate, and detoxify your skin with the help of Mayan clay, which has been used in bathing rituals since the ancient times. Mayan Clay is a natural product found in Tulum that has been known to yield fantastic results for detoxifying skin, mineralizing and regenerating skin cells, refining dry and dehydrated skin, eliminating acne and other skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis as well as a magic worker for releasing stress and anxiety.

When arriving in Tulum, I knew I wanted to enjoy the experience of a Mayan Clay Massage and Bath, but there are so many options out there, I wasn’t sure which one to pick. Thankfully, the wonderful hotel we were staying at, Kasa Hotel Parota Tulum had us covered. After pampering us with a luxurious room, situated right in the heart of Tulum and fantastic amenities such as an infinity pool, a lounge pool, a beach club, the concierge made sure we had an appointment to the best Mayan Clay massage in the area. The day started with a delicious breakfast at Kocina, Kasa’s very own restaurant, followed by lounging by the pool until it was time to head to the Mayan Clay Bath.

Before arriving at the Mayan Clay Bath, I felt drained. I had started the year in force, working like crazy, piling up a thousand things on my plate, trying to deliver every project before its deadline and furthermore trying to take on more projects like going all Marie Kondo on my apartment (which is cleaner and tidier to begin with, but still had a bunch of accumulated stuff that I wasn’t using), and fitting in my workouts and my friends in the my overloaded and overworked life. I didn’t really know what to expect as I had heard about the curative powers of the Mayan Clay, but at the same time, I was a bit reluctant to believe that a day at the spa would take all my worries away, especially since spas and massages are not really my thing. I figured, if nothing else, my skin would look hydrated and glowing at the end of it. To say that I was blown away by the experience would be to understate what actually happened.
Soaking in the natural healing waters and exfoliating the body with a deep massage done with Mayan Clay, meant to stimulate and energize your skin and your internal organs. The clay is massaged into your body, face, and hair to soften the skin and allow for its wonderful minerals to penetrate deep into the layers of the skin, smooth away tiny wrinkles, improve skin tone, hydrate, eliminate acne and reveal a glowing and hydrated skin.

Once this decadent massage is over, guests gets to relax in a freshwater pool and take a warm shower to remove the clay, before jumping into a Jacuzzi bath with Epsom Salts, enjoying the sauna or plunging into a cenote pool and finishing up with natural hydrating oil that will keep your skin soft and pampered.
The benefits of the Mayan Clay are numerous and go beyond the beautification and hydration that takes place during this process. According to the locals, these are some of the benefits every guest can expect during and after their Mayan Clay experience.
The Mayan Clay cleans, detoxifies, heals and hydrates your skin, while at the same time eliminating fine lines and evening out skin tone. It absorbs impurities and acids from skin tissue, exfoliates and regenerates, while at the same time helping heal sunburn, acne, rashes or mosquito bites. It also helps eliminate under eye bags, reduces redness and eliminates dry and dull skin by stimulating the skins’ regenerative functions.

While most people choose to use Mayan Clay for its beautification properties, another important use is with depression. Applying a thick layer of Mayan Clay over the spine and the back of the neck allows for the absorption of minerals into your central nervous system, which in turns helps with depression and migraines. The Mayan Clay Bath is a somewhat meditative experience which has been shown to have positive impact on people who are dealing with depression by not only absorbing toxins from the body, but also releasing minerals and kickstarting the energy centers of the body. Charged with positive electromagnetic energy Mayan Clay stores the radiation it receives from exposure to the elements, sun, wind and rain during its formation over thousands of years. The clay acts like a natural magnet transferring positive electrons into the body as well as attracting and absorbing toxic buildup. It is also filled with calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and zinc, all essential minerals for the well-functioning of the body.

The curative powers of the Mayan Clay have been used by the Mayans and the locals for generations, so to be able to experience this as a visitor was a completely surreal experience. Once again, the luxurious Kasa Hotel Parota Tulum had delivered the best level of service by not only providing the best in-house experience, but also making sure that everything else we wanted to explore was carefully planned with the highest level of comfort and luxury.
