Very early stages though. It needs peer review and more extensive testing and the FDA needs to approve it. Manufacturing and Distribution will take time. It’s a 2 dose solution and the vaccine needs to be kept refrigerated making distribution more difficult. It’ll be many months away and we still need to social distance and wear masks but it’s a good news day for us all. Well, maybe not for whitesnake1987 who’s feeling like Trump on Friday as he realizes his days are numbered

You’d think Trump would be tweeting up a storm on this. Just one tweet but he leads it with the stock market being up. I guess he’s probably pissed they didn’t release the news 2 weeks ago before the election when he could have taken credit for it and tried to use it to sway voters

Not just refrigerated, but kept at minus 70 degrees Celcius or lower during storage and distribution. It can handle a few days at normal freezer or fridge temperatures before use. There are very few places, even hospitals, with bulk -70C storage capacity and virtually none in doctors' offices, pharmacies or rural areas. In less developed parts of the world, they don't exist. Other vaccines, e.g. Moderna's, can be stored at normal refrigerator temperatures. Pfizer is first with a press release, but they have huge hurdles to overcome on the distribution front.

Yes, it’s a problem but we can work it out. They’ll have to engage both industry and the military.

For poorer countries they might have to build freezer containers that can be loaded on C-17 and C-130 military cargo planes that once off-boarded can be loaded on trucks and that would be the mobile freezer. Our industrialized countries will need freezer trucks as well and the military to help move the doses from the production facilities to each city. In our rich industrialized countries they can engage business to build small freezers for the doctor’s office for final storage. Alternatively, they can use the freezer trucks and park them at the hospitals and arrange appointments to come and get the dosages.

A successful vaccine could really hamper the glee you get from your daily case count... I can totally see why that's a threat.
