DIY Cannabis Massage Oil Has Incredible Health Benefits
Culture March 31, 2016 By Chuck Ludley
Although not a lot of people realize it, one of the best ways to elevate the health benefits of massage is to use cannabis massage oil.
In 420-friendly states like Colorado, Washington, and Oregon it’s becoming more common to find spas and therapists who offer cannabis massages. But making your own cannabis-infused massage oil at home means you can get and give ultra therapeutic massages no matter where you live.
At this point, you’re probably wondering if a cannabis massage will get you high.
It probably won’t. And that’s because whatever THC is in the oil won’t make it into your bloodstream.
But the good news is that there are still a number of other amazing health benefits that can come from a cannabis massage, including:
Anti-inflammatory Properties
Cannabis-infused massage oil has a lot of CBD in it, which can help soothe sore joints, arthritis, and other injuries.
Sensory Stimulation
Using cannabis-infused oil will stimulate your skin and senses—almost like getting your skin high.
Muscle Relaxation
Along with stimulating your skin, cannabis-infused massage oil can help your muscles relax. This can ease pain and tension, and can be a great way to decompress at the end of the day without actually getting high.

Keeps Your Skin Healthy
The oil contains fatty acids and other healthy compounds that will nourish and strengthen your skin.
The really amazing thing about using cannabis-infused massage oil is that the person giving the massage also gets these benefits through their hands. It’s a win-win all around.
At this point, hopefully you’re convinced and ready to try a cannabis massage.
Here’s how you make your own cannabis massage oil:
What You Need
Get your double boiler set up and hot. Grind the marijuana to a fine consistency.
Now add the almond oil to the top of the double boiler. Carefully add the ground up herb.
Step 2: Heat and Infuse
Set your stove to medium heat and let the marijuana infuse into the oil for at least one hour. Stir it regularly throughout that time.
The heating process will activate the THC and CBD in the marijuana. These chemicals will then bond to the fat in the oil.
Step 3: Strain and Cool Oil
After an hour or so, very carefully pour the oil through the cheesecloth and into the glass jar. Being sure not to burn yourself, squeeze out as much of the oil as you can.

Let the jar full of oil stand until it cools completely.
Step 4: Add Essential Oils
Once the marijuana-infused oil has cooled, add your favorite essential oils. This is a good way to give your massage oil the exact smell you want.
You can also give the oil additional health benefits. For example, bergamot oil can help heal cuts and scars, and sandalwood or tea tree oil can help cure coughs and congestion.
To get started, you could try adding 5 drops each of sandalwood, rose, and bergamot oils.
After adding essential oils to the mixture, gently swirl it around inside the jar until everything’s mixed in.
Step 5: Let Stand Overnight
Although you can definitely use your cannabis massage oil as soon as it’s cool, we suggest letting it stand overnight. This will allow the essential oils to become fully incorporated.
Step 6: Enjoy a Cannabis Massage
Now you’re ready to use your cannabis massage oil. Rub it on sore joints, muscles, or anywhere else that needs a little loving.
