(I hope I put this in the right place)I’m feeling bummed and a bit depressed about starting over…..again. Living in an area I really dislike and don’t know a soul here. So in looking for inspiration, I thought of this question. If you could magically have your business by just dreaming it, what would it consist of?  Money is no object. No restrictions. Paint a picture. This place is loaded with creative people and I’m looking forward to your ideas.I had to actually sleep on this. I am truly blocked, but my first idea came quick I would love to have an office across the street from Fenway Park.  I would be there for every game, then dash across the street and wait for tensed up fans to drop in. Win or lose, Sox fans need work. I’m speaking from personal experience, and sadly, I’m about 1500 miles away from Fenway. I hope to corrrect this travesty in the future.This one came from my dreams.I picture a low curved stone wall from the street, with a pathway leading to an inviting porch of an unassuming two-story pine coteforum.xxxe, with wine colored shutters. As you open the door, you enter a cozy forest green reading room, filled with pillow covered nooks and people browsing books in several recessed shelves. A large stone fireplace is lit to your right. Walking past the fire place to the right is a kitchen, where several people are gathered around a horseshoe shape soapstone counter, preparing the evening meal.As you walk back through the reading area, there is a receptionist taking service requests. Behind her are windows, with a view of a lake. Continuing west of the kitchen and reading area, you enter a gentle, open wood-beamed room with a glass west wall and a view of a mountain. There is a yoga class in session.You open a door next to the glass wall and walk down stairs to the back of the house and notice a couple of canoes on the shore. There are two Tiki huts set up for massage. To the east, behind the kitchen area, Is a barbecue and picnic area, encircled by pine trees, but it has the feel of a Japanese garden..  As you walk back towards the house, you notice  hot and cold plunge pools and an outdoor steam room . Approaching the underside of the building, facing the lake, you enter the treatment area. It is a large open room . The walls are covered with grasscloth and the treatment areas are divided with privacy blinds made of bamboo. So then, unfortunately, I woke up. Dang alarm clocks.  If I get inspired again, I’ll be back.

Anyway, the key words are dreamer and fantasy. I was thinking of it as a self-help tool.

I'll reply plucky,My fantasy business changes every so often.  A few years ago it was to have a prenatal spa.  Catering to only women who were pregnant and to the new mothers.  Offering facials, pedicures, manicures, massage, ect.  I also wanted to include a workout area with knowledgable trainers to help everyone stay in shape or get back in shape without having to go to the regular gym.This was back when I was working for a spa and I have since changed my focus.My practice now has a more "medical" feel so I aim to one day have a multi-therapist clinic that works on clients with injuries.  This is also mainly the type of work I have done since becoming a MT.  I would like for it to be well recognized in the community and by the Dr's that refer to us like crazy .  I would like to have the therapists all get along very well and do great work.  Everyone would have customizable electric lift tables and we would use them most luxurious sheets.  When the client walks in the door they would feel welcome and safe.  They would receive the best treatment possible. ;DToo bad I couldn't afford to do a large scale practice that offered everything.  One part could be a clinic, one part a prenatal spa, one part for children and infants, one part for geriatrics, and one part for the therapists to get work from.  Something for everyone!  (I am sure that I have missed a few)One step at a time.

Mike is a great fishing guide, and with me being in massage, and painting, and crafting…*sigh*…a dream:A little like yours, Plucky! Picture an inlet of deep blue sea mirroring the sky, secluded from civilization by forested hills. There’s a single jet boat parked along a dock, with stairs that lead past terraced areas of scented herbs and flowers, to a log cabin nestled near the shore. The long porch in front has a view of the towering Cascades. The front door is very welcoming with its colorful stained glass window. It leads to a great room with a stone fireplace (Yep I want one too *lol*), and large bay window with a window seat, where you can curl up and take in the view, or enjoy a book.  The couches are soft and inviting. They surround a large low table where you can relax with cocoa or have an intuitive reading. To the left and back is a chef’s kitchen, where hubby shows off his culinary skills, and supreme knowledge of good wines.In the front corner is a sunny room with a harvest table and antler chandelier, comfort chairs that support interesting conversations over delicious meals.To the right, from the central corridor, there are two massage rooms, with bathroom and shower for one, and a beautiful sunken tub in the other. The tables are skirted with beautiful matching linens and bolsters.  Hand carved antiques hold linens. The oils are displayed in blown glass bottles of bright colors and Victorian shapes.  Fresh flowers scent the rooms. The changing areas in each are set off with hand carved, or colorful painted screens. Brass hooks, a carved shelf, an antique beveled mirror, and a tapestry chair make the corner comfortable. On one hook is a soft robe with matching slippers beneath. Handmade quilts hang from the banisters of the loft above the great room. In the loft there are two cozy bedrooms with sky lights to view the stars, and French doors leading to separate balconies where the bistro sets on each welcome couples for a breakfast in the fresh clean air, or a glass of wine catching the colors of a bright sunset. Near dawn, the house bustles with activity as the men in the parties prepare for a day of fishing. Breakfast and boxed lunches are provided with care.The women are allowed to sleep longer. HAH! For them will be massage, body treatments, long soaks in scented baths. Later some may wish to sun themselves on the dock, where they can tease their mates who are wrestling in a fish on or two. Others may want to take a walk along the paths between lilac and tulip trees, and discover a little garden house that has also become a little gift shop with hand made goodies they’ve enjoyed as a guest. For dinner we all enjoy the day’s catch gourmet style. Or grill thick steaks, or offer gorgeous salads for the vegans.  We fast freeze their salmon to take home.*lol* the next day the women may chose their hand at fishing…and the men have their turn at pampering. Thanks so much Masthera and gutehands.  Your ideas were so much fun to read. It is said, if you write down your dreams, the universe will help you achieve them. I had to giggle when Masthera mentioned therapists getting along and working well together. Now that’s a dream!  Teamwork is an underrated concept and alludes many.  I love professional sports and notice it all the time. The teams that support one another are more fun to watch and have better outcomes, than the teams full of annoying divas. I am looking forward to reading more ideas. They don’t have to be sensible. Wild and crazy are also welcome.

I don't think that my dream practice has a specific place, that might have to do with the fact that I love the place I am in now.  But I think it does consist of having a constant flow of clients and referals that I can pick and choose my hours and still be making some money at!!  I think eventually, I would like to own a clinic and have other therapists working for me and I can lessen the load on myself, but that is in the future when my hands begin to feel  the years of work!!  Just my 2 cents, dosen't sound like my and not anything big but I am a pretty simple person!!

The reason why so many find it hard to build their dream practice is really because they give up!

It is difficult to remain positive.

I have been studying and reading alot of books that deal with beliefs and intention.

If you don't know what your beliefs are, just look around you and see what you have in your life.

If your practice is lacking or slow...what is it that you believe about success?  about failure?  about money?

Most of our beliefs are unconscious and started at an early age.  We arent' even aware of them.

I had a dream back in August '01 after seeing a news spot on reflexology which caused me to become intrigued with the idea of manipulating trigger points in the feet to stimulate and impact in a healthy way the whole body.The dream was vivid, basically people would come to me to feel better.  At the time, I did not know it would be massage.  In the dream there was a place that had a feel of a library where there were books, tapes, cd's on inspirational and motivational topics.  There were other items that could be purchased such as candles, oils, gift baskets with like products.  Beautiful music would be playing with candles softening the atmosphere...creating a since of "Perfect Peace"(which is now the name of my business).Then there was a treatment room in the back, but what was so profound in the dream was a picture on the wall of a person sitting down, bent over with a look of anguish and pain in their face and body expression..the person was lifting 1 leg in preparation for another person who was stooping in front of them with a basin of water preparing to wash the person's feet...This started my persuit into the feild of massage therapy..then October of '03 I resigned from corporate america, pulled on every financial resource I had and started school in November of '03..graduated a year later, been licensed since Jan '05.  It's been exciting, but tough at times..been doing a lot of networking, chair massage events, volunteering with a Senior center and just went to orientation to work with a local hospital that has a program for massage therapist providing massage to hospice cancer patients..Was doing mobile, but really don't want to wear my self out..so far have worked as IC for a fitness spa, medical spa, and now a salon..but I'm "TRULY" not feeling anyone of these arrangements..Been tempted to go get a temp office job..but now waiting to close on property back home in another state so..now I'm thinking to just go for it..I've built a client base, have started a mailing list and where I live now, there is no private practice that I've come across, just a couple of salon/spa's...I did negotiate a space while I was still in school right in my neighborhood and the option is still open..so I may make that investment when my property closes..I've been reflecting back lately on the "dream" I mentioned above..reassessing where I am now and how to get back on track with the vision..I want to offer a "unique" experience when clients come to "Perfect Peace Massage Therapy" which promotes massage as more than a luxury, but a necessity...a key ingredient to overall balance in life...WOW..I'm going to go back to the drawing board..this posting has thrown fuel to the fire for me..WHY NOT?"Perfect Peace Inspirations and More"???

Oh I LOVE that name! - Perfect Peace.  Lovely - Id call and make an appointment with you just beacause the name is so great - it would definately catch my eye!Soooo, I wanted to respond to this thread when it was brand new but ive been a little disenchanted lately (**did I just make that word up?**)   I wasnt going to post anything because i couldnt think of what my dream business would be,  or even if it was still in massage at all.buuuuttttt - I finally got a LONG overdue massage myself so i feel much more encouraged now, much more 'in touch' with myself, my business and my career field in general. I would say my dream business is the one I have now, i have been very blessed, but I am making a move sometime at the end of this year or begining of next year, leaving my business (EVERYONE cross your fingers for me that I can actually sell it to some good soul! maybe maybe maybe!)  and moving on to a larger city.   so this is what i see for myself in the future, my dream business.Massage therapy offered in the comfort and privacy of the clients home. I arrive at a nice house, I am professionally dressed in a spa uniform (the one in the universal catalog, asian looking), I meet my client with an intake form and a professional service menu; listing their choice of Cds, aromatherapy oils/blends, modalities to choose from, unique add ons, guided meditation, a reminder to shut phone off ect ect.I give a wonderful massage, quietly pack my things and leave a fresh flower, a bottle of water and an inspirational quote, postitive affirmation, meditation excersize OR tips for after a massage (printed on a vistaprint postcard).   My niche would be for the most part well off individuals, obviously.  Upper class neighborhoods.  Receiveing clients my word of mouth recommendation.My dream business also offers life coaching, though maybe that would be more on its own, in addition to the massage business.  Another little dream of mine...shhhhhh...its a total secret....I would LOVE to teach in home belly dance sessions.  but thats only a dream cause I just have a few basic instructional videos that i try once in awhile...and lets face it, rural North Dakota isnt exactly where I could easily find someone to authenticly teach it to me so I could in turn teach someone else!  I just think it would be so darn fun.  That ones just a dream though.  *when I move though - I will look for someone who can teach me, just for myself if anything! *Gutehands - I'll be there, your dream business sounds AMAZING!

Oooooooooh, fun topic! I'm gonna have to think on this. Just so you know, these are my favorite kind of "games". I'm a very good dreamer, just ask me what I'd do if I won PowerBall!!!

I do have a longterm dream/goal. I got my pregnancy massage certification this past March. I'd like to get certified in infant massage and become a certified (or is it licensed?) doula. Once I've got that done I'd like to start a volunteer program working with teen, single, low-income mothers-to-be/families. It would be really great to help out from the beginning of the pregnancies, through labor, and then these people start a caring loving, touch/massage relationship with their new little babies.

If anyone out there is already doing something like this gimme a shout!
