Just yesterday we went to the Humane Society 'just to look' and ended up adopting a dog. :]
He's a three year old red Miniature Pinscher. He's housetrained and good with other dogs. In fact, when we got him out to interact with him, there were two Chihuahua puppies in there that were also getting adopted and he played great with them! We couldn't take Lua (15 week old Chihuahua) there just yet since she didn't get her shots until today and they don't hold dogs. He'd been there for a month already, we didn't want to take any chances.
We get him Tuesday after he gets neutered. I know to let them meet on neutral ground and then after they play/get to know each other, to bring them home. Any tips?
I'm a little nervous. I've been socializing Lua as best as I can without putting her on the ground at parks, dog parks, pet stores, etc. But the only people I know that have dogs have large dogs, so she's never really been around small dogs except when she was still at her breeder's home. She plays GREAT with big dogs, loves them. We've also never had a dog visit OUR home before. (My mom's dogs refuse to climb stairs as they've never had to.) What do you think?
Any other tips?
@Mongrel Momma -- LOL. Not yet... Mandy (my partner) says "I get to name him because you got to name Lua!" and she won't decide on anything. :[ I want to name him Edgar, but she says no. :[
We just talked about it and we like Chauncey, Bishop, and Prescott. Lol. Here are a couple pics:
