Flat rate for pay

I'm posting for a friend w/o a computer. She is looking at a job offer that would pay her a flat rate of $20.00 per hour. She can work as many hours as she wants. Besides the massage duties, (she will be working in a salon/spa setting) duties would include cleaning bathrooms, sweeping hair, general clean up. She will get bonuses for reaching X amount of clients per week plus commission on product.
Does anyone on this forum get paid this way and/or what do you think of this setup. She bounced this off me last night and I couldn't see any drawbacks. She will do a shadowing hopefully on Monday with yours truly getting his first 2008 massage. t026. Any and all feedback would be great. Thanks in advance.

If I were looking at a flat hourly pay, I would want a guarantee of hours, and also in writing, the spacing of clients, max clients per day, etc.

Many times the wage/hour style pay can be advaneforum.xxxeous for the moderately busy therapist, since she would be paid for time between massages.

Here's a scenario where it would not be as good as it sounds:

6 hour days, 6-1 hour massages scheduled back to back with no breaks. Finish your 6 hour day, get sent home.

IF she is getting reasonable time between clients, doing other less physical tasks in between, not having too many clients per day, and not having hours cut when not with clients, it could be a decent arrangement.

Get it in writing.

My youngest niece works as a hair stylist in a wonderful high-end salon/spa in Florida. When she did her training here in Ohio, she also worked in a high-end salon/spa. In both places, the LMTs make a base rate pay for their massages [40% of what the salon/spa charges their clientele] and are expected to do other work around the salon/spa when they are not otherwise occupied doing "bodywork services". For that, the LMTs receive a lower rate of pay hourly and are expected to be at the salon/spa ready to provide massage whether or not they are scheduled for massages that particular day.

If your friend can be guaranteed $20/hour regardless of what type work she is doing, it might be to her benefit. In the scenarios above, the LMTs make $28 for a $70 massage [1hour] and then make $9.50/hour when they aren't doing bodywork. Some weeks it works to their advaneforum.xxxe, other weeks, not so much.
