I walked by The bar "formerly known as New York" yesterday. In addition to the guys working,I noticed a new sign that said "2X1 Pizza" so I guess that's what will be there pretty soon. Does anyone know if the pizza is any good in their other establishments

It's not good. I had it once a few years ago, it's like frozen microwave pizza in the US, but twice as bad.

I think they give you 2 small (plate sized) pies for about ¢4,000.

The pizza establishment is upstairs, over the old bar, in Richard's old apartment. The entrance is to the left of the old bar door. The last I heard, a new bar was being built in the space where the NYB used to be. It should be completed by mid-May I would think.

As an aside, Richard's wife, Margarita, and daughter Mayella are both working at Papi's now, as well as Yorleny, the former bartender at the NYB.

2x1 Pizza is a chain. When you eat at a chain restaurant, you can pretty much guarantee it will be the same, no matter which location you go to. So if it's shit pizza at one location, I don't need to try this specific location to give an opinion. :idea:

Many years ago, I ate at a '2 X 1' pizza store about a mile and a half past the Mall de San Pedro, in Zapote, heading towards Tres Rios. It's on the left side of the road. It wasn't terrible pizza, just 'average', perhaps a step below Pizza Hut. Speaking of Pizza Hut, damn, they're expensive in CR...more than in the U.S.! One time I took a chica and her two offspring to a Pizza Hut in Cartago, near the park. I figured it would cost maybe $35 max. The bill came to $53!

+1 Pizza hut IS expensive in CR. I was waiting for the bus at the depot in Jaco. It was a hot day so I figured Id go into pizza hut that's just steps away from the bus ticket office and enjoy their AC! Walked in looked at the menu prices and walked straight out!!

You sir are correct in your point but you said a few years ago you tried it at another of this so called chains locations . No way can your opinion be of any use if it is based on something you ate a few years ago. You know as well as I do that is not a just an opinion of a new place you have never been. I seen a few at the DR and even one at Kl (she looked at me like "what is she doing here" ) she had a drunk gringo and seemed happy as hell....some say a few go to bar poas ....but it wont be the same even if you find them...just something about that place I loved ....as a rule I would check the place out around 7 or 830 pm ...buy a few drinks for the group in the corner and leave ....come back 3 hours later and chat up one of the girls who at this time would be phucked up....

Must say 95% of the ones I got out of there were performers (or what I like to say ...they phucked back) offer 20,000c and most would be happy .....some crazy times ,,,not the hottest group but to be ..nasty is fun !!!!

A few of them hang out now at Joe B's around the corner from the Presidente. But...most of those are the 'older' chicas. I also miss the NYB! Indeed, there was the occasional 'diamond in the rough' to be found there
