HAMILTON -- Township officials shut down a massage business on Nottingham Way Wednesday after inspectors found several violations of Hamilton codes, Mayor Kelly Yaede announced.

County narcotics officers arrested a woman on prostitution charges at the location last year.

Yaede said the location - 2531 Nottingham Way, which was called the New Spa last year - was in violation of the township ordinance she pushed last year that regulates massage parlors.

On Wednesday, health officials found two masseuses at the premises did not have a massage license present and both were found to have been staying overnight at the location - after legitimate business hours.

And the mayor's statement said, the business had no list of legitimate massage services posted for potential patrons and a hand-held, table massage unit was in violation of state code.

Yaede said she acted last year in hopes of stemming a "rising trend of unscrupulous individuals using such facilities as a front for prostitution" and she wants to help thwart human trafficking in the township.

"Any effort to conduct illegal activities under the guise of a legitimate business will not be tolerated in Hamilton Township and will be aggressively pursued," the mayor said.

Wednesday's action, Yaede said, should be a warning to anyone plotting illegal activity in town.

Yaede is giving her annual State of the Township address Thursday at The Stone Terrace in Hamilton during a MIDJersey Chamber of Commerce luncheon event.
