I am talking about when the service is good. I have no problem not leaving tips when it's not good. As a matter of fact, I gave the tips ($10) to a hostess since I didn't feel I got a good service from my waitress.
How do people think and handle tips?
For example, if a bill is over $500 at dinner, do you still do 20%?

PS- last time we were at a restuarant, the waiter was very good and the bill was about $450, and my husband left $90 as the tip so I was just wonder if it is too much when the bill is high and we still do a %. Thanks all!!
Okay, I think that I needed to provide some clarification about the bill since some people think it is rather unreal. The bill above was for a party of 6 adults (no wine since none of us drink) and it was at Chesters in Wichita, KS. Also, I can give another example. Go to Blue Ocean in Scottsdale/Phoenix, AZ, you will see $300+ for one appetizer (but it is so good รยฏร๏ฟพร ย ). I understand tipping is a personal preference. I am asking the questions out of my curiosity. I truly appreciated the insights given by people who work in service industry. We as outsiders have no idea that our servers have to share their tips!
