I have an 8 year old cat raised with my first boy who passed in 06. It took keeping Orly my current adult in a xxl dog crate when I wasn't home from school until Herkie stopped acting defensively. They weren't best buddies but would play and tolerate one another. I got a submissive male kitten this weekend. He isn't altered and will be once I find a vet that will do it before 6 months. (There is one I know of that I have to call) anyway day one orly went after the kitten and I stepped in. I expected it. Orly came out from under the couch before I could get the kitten in my room where he's kept separate for now. I work full time and can't call off so the dog crate is out. Anyway day two if I smelled like the kitten orly would hiss. Yesterday he reacted better and today I cuddled the kitten then orly and no aggressive reaction. I've been following ignoring orly if he reacts aggressively and so far so good. Is like to know any tips. The kitten is a Bengal an active breed and would when older be able to escape orly easily due to his agility and high places orly can't climb. I just want tips to transition this more smoothly. I did it once before and once orly had been neutered Herkie stopped reacting as bad. Again its ok if they aren't friends but I just want them to tolerate one another. That's all. Both have their claws and neither have any feline diseases. I would not allow them alone together until the kitten is big enough to have a chance to defend him self but is like to let him see my house ion the weekends and let both have some time to see one another safely.
