(Willmar MN-) A judge Wednesday suspended criminal proceedings against a Willmar massage business owner facing a prostitution charge, and ordered that the defendant undergo an examination to see if she is competent to stand trial. 55-year-old Ying He, owner of Massage Therapy in Willmar, is charged with a felony count of Soliciting or Inducing Someone to Commit Prostitution, and gross misdemeanor counts of Operating a Disorderly House and 5th Degree Assault. She was arrested March 9th after allegedly instructing an employee to perform sex acts on a customer, then beating her when the employee refused.
In Kandiyohi County District Court Wednesday, Judge Melissa Listug ruled there was probable cause to proceed with the charges, but granted a defense motion to suspend proceedings and have Ye undergo a competency exam. The examination will be performed by a court-appointed psychiatrist, either in the Kandiyohi County Jail or somewhere else if Ye posts bail. The results of the examination will be reviewed June 18th (2 p.m.) Ye remains jailed on $50,000 conditional bail.
