RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that junior Julie Lucio, of the women's golf team, is the Massage Envy Student-Athlete of the Week.
Lucio, from Brownsville, was named Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week last week for her performance at the Islander Classic. It was Lucio's third-career WAC Golfer of the Week honor.
Lucio paced the Vaqueros at the Islander Classic where she posted a career-best tying three-round score of 219 to finish tied for sixth place out of 96 golfers. Lucio now holds two of the top-four lowest three round scores in program history.
Lucio opened with back-to-back rounds of 74 before posting an even par 71 to close out the tournament as she helped the Vaqueros to a fourth place finish while setting a program record with a three-round score of 890.
Throughout the 2021-22 season, Lucio is second on the team with a 76.67 stroke average while posting a 76.16 stroke average through two tournaments this spring.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on today and tomorrow at the GCU Invitational before hosting the UTRGV Invitational from March 7-8 at McAllen Country Club.
