Two places around the corner from me have shut down as well. One is shut permanently and a new tennant is in the building. The other is shut down but is for sale along with contents

...Lily seemed 2 like me... kept me xtra 15 min& HJ after already CBJ... but wouldn’t even tell me her schedule,never mind contact stuff...

...rival spa, Wellness Studio, seems 2b on standby... no sign in door, but no sign of life...

...WJT, open sign off... but folding sign outside... hmm... back entrance buzzer & camera... & no nosy neighbours, altho pizza next door very busy...

...eSpa: no sign of life, but no ‘For Rent’ sign... looks like renovated garage... next dr = car repair... spa owners may own unit... makes it easy 2 wait it out... Lots dandelions & trash outside, looks deserted... it’s dark, car in front maybe from next door...

...was betting w myself eSpa would be stealth mode, but looks locked down... WJT, OTOH...

It's over for many spas. The rent cannot be met. Government program for 75% deal is not working out for many businesses.

this is the first step. the second is when they are allowed to open up we find out some of the known MPAs left due to fear.

Don't kid yourself. A majority of spas will fold. These operations don't have bank accounts with reserve funds. It's a cash business with everything being taken out as it's made. Sure, lots will pop up again next year under different names. The folly of the eviction deferrals won't prevent it. It just allows people to accumulate debt they can never pay back. They will default and close. Also, a large proportion of people (me included) won't visit. Disposable incomes are dropping. 45% of the Canadian workforce is on EI, CERB or wage subsidy. Very few will have extra cash to blow to be blown.

So it's over as we know it. A couple of my fav's are reaching out saying they never want to go back and will I be their boyfriend. Briefly tempted but will refrain. Interesting comments about eSpa and WJT. I will go out on a West End re-con and support. Interested to see if the Mississauga spa I reported on is still operating through the back door with the lights off.

The owners that don't have a sense for the business are usually just hanging on in the best of times.

You need more that a pretty face and open legs to run a business.

Smart owners will be there in the end.

It's true, a good owner and a successful MPA are two different things. One can be a good MPA but not a successful business owner. I admire the owner of Just Relax, who can manage the shop very well with a few hours in the shop and she is pretty young. If I can learn from her, I would still open a spa at this time.

When things open up, some girls may not want to return to work and customers may hesitate to go to a spa because of health concerns or financial reasons, so things likely not to be easy for a spa operator.

Is this at Birchmount and Finch? I went there years ago and had the time of my life with this college chick named Ariel.

I've been wading in to a few discussions here and there. Haven't been out hobbying for 3 months. Just went out for drive to see if anyone was open. I have big news from Mississauga.

I went past Tai Chi at Dixie and Lakeshore. a sign in the window said "now we are open". Four cars parked two in the back and two out front. As I watched two Peel Police Cruisers pulled up. Thankfully I decided to drive by on the roads versus going through the parking lot. I just drove away. Came back 90 minutes later and there was still a Police car parked there clearly watching the place. Two cars were still out back.

I'm sure whoever was in the place got a greeting from Peel's finest. I remember when I was very regular with Wendy at White Rose in the East end going in one time and she matter of factly told me the Police had just left. I was freaked out for while thinking of what I was doing with her there.

I think it's pretty risky out there going into any place trying to sneak open. BTW I also went by the place at 381 Bering Ave. in a small house close to eSpa. It seemed to be operating. Went by 10 other places clear closed.
