I am a massage enthusiast with no formal training. However I have been reading about massage, watching training videos, and massaging my wife monthly (sometimes weekly) for the past 8 years. As a result I have become quite good. Ideally I would like to be able to receive a monthly massage but I simply can not afford to spend in excess of $700/year on regular massage. Because of this I have to settle for getting only 3 or 4 massages a year and that is just not enough!!! If I go for more than 3 or 4 months without some sort of bodywork I find that I become easily tired and cranky.

I am a 35 year old athletic male and for comfort reasons would prefer to exchange with a female practitioner. Non-sexual!!! Non-sexual!!! Non-sexual!!!

Non-professionals are encouraged to respond. In my experience over the last 10 years, 40+ massages, and 14 different professionals of varying experience and modalities, I’ve found that often the practitioners with the least experience have given the best massages. I believe less skilled practitioners often pay more attention to what they are doing and take more time to find and work problem areas. Having great technique doesn’t always equate with a great massage if the attention to detail isn’t there.

Again --- I cannot stress enough that I am not looking for a sexual encounter. I am only looking to exchange massage with a like minded individual.

Welcome to the board. This is a professional discussion board. It is clearly stated that the only place for non-professionals to post is in the client section. You are welcome to post your offer in that section, but I think you may have better luck offering to barter goods or services in which you are professionally involved with in order to "make a deal" with an MT. Many folks here offer massage as a barter to get services they want.

Generally speaking, the average rate for massage is about $65-75 for a one hour session.

That should, by your $700/yr calculations, afford you a session about every 5 to 6 weeks.

I apologize if this sounds harsh, but it's sort of a pet peeve of mine...

It's not about affordability, it's about priorities.

Even when I was out of work for more than a year while I went to school, we still continued to shop at the local health food store for our organic and earth-friendly groceries instead of going back to the regular neighborhood grocery store just because they were "cheaper".

It's amazing how those for whom preventative healthcare is/becomes a priority, the money and time miraculously "appear". Conversely, it's also interesting how often those who don't really realize the value of preventative healthcare services complain about the price.

PS: I, for one, don't trade licensed services with anyone who isn't licensed in the field I'm seeking.
