Well, I just want to add:

This is another example of "part of the story". How long did they try and move that articulated plow before giving up and just yanking it out?

Now this is in no way shape or form excusing them but there are plenty of times I've tried to finesse something out during a reno to no avail. Sometimes the only way is to get out the big wrecking bar.

Just thinking: with the cost per hour of the tow truck, the plow, the driver etc that probably adds up to twice as much as that suv was worth. I mean, they could have called the police to come and get the owner's info off the plates on the vehicles, contacted the owners to get them to move the vehicles, but then, how many thousands would that cost?

But really, he could have lifted the blade a little higher, he didn't need to bang into the ROOF of the vehicle too (unless of course he figured he'd written off the suv anyways so why not have some fun while he was at it lol).

Not smoking anything dude. Last time I checked those big tow trucks made something like $2000.00 an hour or something like that. That isn't just for when they hook up, it's getting them there, taking you wherever you need to go and back to base. Plus heavy equipment operators (especially union ones) get paid big bucks.

I get your sarcasm, a bit of a stretch but you have a good point. There are a lot of things they could have done rather than get the wrecker.

The wage of the wrecker is closer to $300/hr if that but with that snow storm unless he was just assing by or under contract to the city the wait time would have been huge.

Sad part is the operator might have been union and worked as a city worker and if it was he would still have his job. Hopefully he was under contract and was only hired help for snow removal but he is still getting a good $25/hr.

Your right though, it articulates. You can get it out in a much tighter spot than that. The angle makes it hard to criticsize as he might have been highsided, but he should have been able to get out with the bucket and slowly push himself out.

My thought is whats a loader with a bucket doing plowing snow? He should have a hand an a/blade or atleast a pusher on otherwise he should have just stayed in the parking lots like the others.

Are you sure about the wrecker? I got a 4 x 4 stuck in a beach once and they were charging that for the mid sized one. They said if they had to call in that one, it'd be closer to 2 grand....(maybe I'm misremembering and it was 2 grand total??)

No its not so easy as that. the hard part is where he is starting from here. the stupidity is that the tow truck couldn't put himself where he really needed to be. I am a bit curious why they wouldn't have tried to pull it forward but it looks like there was probably a huge snowbank blocking them in.
Of course maybe that expedition was illegally parked? If the driver had been dealing with lots of illegally parked vehicles all day then he may have just said "FUCK IT".

It was not a life or death situation where you really had to crash or destroy someone's car. I am assuming the city trucks are insured, both here in Ontario and in the US. So not such a big deal. Insurance will probably take care of it. But its just really plain and stupid.

Nothing can justify ramming into someones car. If the plow got stuck, leave it there. Its not like it will save a life. Wait till roads get cleared, call a tow truck , tow the jeep away or hope the owner comes out and removes it. Then safely remove the truck.

If the plow touched the Ford, just stop right there and leave it. Rather than continuing it and ramming it.. That was a good example of "rape"

Seriously, would you simply abandon YOUR car on a busy city street?

As for it saving a life or not, you could possibly argue by not getting it back in action that you are putting many other driver's lives at risk by not clearing the streets.

I can almost guarantee you if they simply abandoned it we'd see a video of "idiot snow plow driver abandoning an expenisve piece of city equipment"......

Believe me, I'm not excusing their actions in the least.....

(after watching the video again, they probably could have pulled the plow away from the vehicle from the other side first, then tried to remove it....wonder if they tried that initially? Or even attached the chain to the inside as opposed to the outside so it'd pull it away from the parked SUV inside of towards it. But again, we're armchair quarter backing here)

Pretty sure on the wrecker. I'll get a bigger truck to tow breakdowns for a couple of hours including hook up times for well less than $500. But then again I wouldnt be paying retail price or in your case an emergency tow where they get to add sorts of fees just because they can.

Out of the entire accident the only thing I can see happening (or doing myself) is demolishing the truck with the bucket actually. Reason being is he was watching the rear and when it cleared he turned the machine and hit the SUV, stupid, but very simple mistake.

I once had the wing on a plow truck out, but thought it was pulled in, and was paying close attention to the driver side plow. Of course I heard a bang and then a second bang and by the time the truck stopped three more bangs. I knocked the wing off of 5 dump trucks parked in a line.
