Should I tip a massage therapist in a medical environment?

My mom got me a gift certificate for a massage at a muscular therapy clinic. I called my mom to see if the certificate included the tip, and if not, how much should I leave. My mom said not to leave anything because the massage therapist is an independant contractor for this clinic, therefore, it would be lke tipping the owner, even though she isn't technically. She doesn't own the name to the business, but works there as a contractor. I felt really weird not leaving a tip. I was there for relaxation as opposed to a medical type of problem, but still. Should I have tipped her?
 
You should always leave a tip if you feel like. A tip is to show them that you are happy and satisfied with service.
