This is the bottom line: If your spouse works at a casino, you’ll want to keep a close eye on them.
A new study out of the University of Radford has broken down divorce by occupation. It’s chilling reading for those who work in the gaming industry.
The job with the highest divorce rate? Dancers and choreographers, nearly half of whom have ended a marriage.
Others who aren’t good at commitment: bartenders, massage therapists, “gaming cage workers,” “gaming service workers” and telephone operators.
“Extruding machine operators” are also way up there. I have never seen an extruding machine in Las Vegas, though I suppose a slot machine does extrude on occasion.
If your husband is claiming that Casino Rama insists that he sleep over at work three nights a week – and he’s on the early shift – you may want to hire a private detective.
Also, make sure your card-dealing wife spends an absolute minimum amount of time with the cage workers – it just sounds wrong, doesn’t it?
Loyalty, on the other hand, can be found in the arms of people who climb phone poles for a living.
“Media and communications equipment workers” have a U.S. divorce rate of exactly zero. Why? Because you do not meet attractive singles on top of phone poles. You meet angry squirrels.
And it’s difficult to treat facial squirrel bites yourself. You need a partner.
Other things that link the most faithful professions: an unhealthy glow (nuclear engineers), God’s wrath (clergy), working with unsightly parts of the body (optometrists and podiatrists) and troglodytism (transit and railroad police).
Here are the study’s rankings:
Most Divorced (industry: divorce rate)
Dancers and choreographers: 43.05 per cent
Bartenders: 38.43
Massage therapists: 38.22
Gaming cage workers: 34.66
Extruding machine operators: 32.74
Gaming services workers: 31.35
Factory workers: Food and tobacco: 29.78
Telephone operators: 29.30
Least Divorced
Media and communications equipment workers: 0
Agricultural engineers: 1.78
Optometrists: 4.01
Transit and railroad police: 5.26
Clergy: 5.61
Directors, religious activities: 5.88
Sales engineers: 6.61
Podiatrists: 6.81
Nuclear engineers: 7.29
