What is the soonest anyone has heard of the Navy approving transfer chits?

My daughter just got stationed in Norfolk and it was not anything she wanted. I have heard after one year u can do a chit to request to another location. She said she is going to put in a chit right when she gets there. Anyone have experience with this or know someone that has and what is the soonest someone has heard of someone being able to transfer? thanks

I did a career in the Nav and you CAN place a chit whenever you desire. It goes faster if u walk the chit through the chain of command. But trust me, it is NOT about desires. Your daughter signed a contract. Now its time she grows up. The Navy is a wonderful place and the benefits outweigh all of the crying stories. Every station has something GOOD about it. I have lived on EVERY continent and while things are NOT always pretty, it is an experience and an education. What ONE wants and what ONE needs are TWO totally different things. Tell her to suck it up!! She could be in a war zone having scud missiles and bullets flying overhead like I was...and that aint pretty especially when ur people are cracking up on you!! Also she needs to think about this......do the officers really have time for such miniscule BS as her location desires. There are too many fish to FRY right now.

The only possibility is for her to cross rate.. the command may let her go if she cross rates to a new rate that requires A school. But, she needs to not let her command know she is unhappy, do what she is told and be a top sailor! Otherwise she will get NOTHING that she wants!! I would just tell her that the military is not there to make anyone happy.. it is what you make of it! Make the best of it, and do what she needs to do. Unfortunately the Navy owns her now, and they do not have to make her happy!

BTW~ Norfolk is not that bad!! I was stationed there and ended up really liking it!
