Not quite sure why you would give your money away to these folks...if you are not going till the winter....then start reading the thread in the NY section on the DR...several of us post solid information ie dos and donts in the DR especially re: Sosua and other places of interest. You have plenty of time...educate yourself, ask questions and you'll have a great time and save a ton of money...

To each their own. I never stayed there but some guys swear by it. I think girls hang around on the grounds but don't actually work for the hotel. Some guys like this - they can just walk downstairs for some action. Personally I like to venture out and look around.

I will tell you from personal experience that nearly every time I've walked past New Garden that a local Dominican, usually a moto concho driver, will ask me if I want to buy drugs. My buddies have had the same thing happen to them. This doesn't say much about the place if the locals have the perception that people who stay there are using drugs.

If you are planning on going anytime soon then you should make a reservation fast. This is high season down there and many hotels fill up fast. Especially from Thursday to Monday when a lot of NY/NJ guys fly down for a long weekend. I'll even bet that there are no vacancies during Super Bowl week.

I've never been to that part of the DR. I've spent most of my (just over 2 dozen) trips on the north coast. From my understanding, Punta Cana is filled with all-inclusives and attracts a more family oriented vacationer which may explain the cheap airfare - they are looking to attract people outside of the time that children are off from school. But I'm sure if you venture outside of the all-inclusive you'll be able to find something there that catches your eye! Good luck.

I've stayed at a few hotels down there and the one I like the best is the Seabreeze. The owner runs the place more like an American hotel than a Dominican one (he's from Miami) and he runs a tight ship there with regard to security, he makes sure every room is cleaned and the sheets are changed every day, he has his own generator for the power outages, it's within easy walking distance of the beach and the main strip and it's only $45 a night.

Jim just a quick suggestion about accomodations...most of the hotels in Sosua are within reasonable walking distance of all the clubs. If you have a friend to go with...suggest that you rent a house in the Hispanola...it is a gaited community about 1/4 mile from the downtown section of Sosua. The house are beautiful (I have one there)...and rental is reasonable...$100-140 per day depending on the amenities. The houses are all clean, spacious with pools and fully equipped...in short a paradise for mongering. If you decide to go this route, you will have no problems bringing girl(s) back...the only issue is that they will be required to leave their cedulas at the guard stand...this is for your safety and also prevents underage girls from getting into the compound. The guys who man the gate don't care what you do...and a 50 peso (less than $2) tip at the beginning of your stay will go a long way to insure complete privacy for you and whoever you bring with you.

Hey Turnpike Mike, thanks for the information. I think I have a lot to learn before going - now that I've been reading more. I checked out the NYC threads for Sousa but a lot of that information is old. Or am I looking in the wrong place? lol. I'm kind of new to this and I want to make sure i get the most out of my trip. Jim...go to Sosua...read the thread in the NYC section first...for hotels that are provider friendly...then head to the strip within walking distance of most of these hotels...you may never come back...

I've been thinking about a trip to the DR. Read a lot about it but am not sure how much is really true - although I hope it all is lol. Are some of the all inclusive adult resorts udr? For instance when I search for Field Of Dreams the search came up empty. hdmaybull - would you please post a link to the resort? Because I am seriously considering a trip to the dr.

I went in August after I came back from a ruff time in the dessert. I heard it was a nice place so I thought I'd try it. That visit turned me into a semi-pro monger. I stayed in Puerto Plata at one of the all inclusives in the Playa Dorado complex. Ifyou do tis it may be hard to bring guests to your room. I soon changed to Field of Dreams across the street.
I wanted to get a few things (water map etc) from a store and the people at the front desk directed me to one of the guides that work there, the best option for the first trip. He was great. I got tour of the area, he set up a cheap car rental and one a girl he knows. I think I would havemarried her if she spoke more english.
The places like Blackceards and Field of Dreams are hotels that have ladies there. The price mosty goes to the hotel but the ladies get a cut. It is a bit safer because they get checked before they work there so there is a smaller chance of getting ripped off.
I will return as soon as I can. I will give you my guides number if you are going to Puerto Plata.
