How on earth do some MT's perform 30 to 40 massages a week??

I'm looking for it... I know I have it somewhere. Depends on which "poll" you look at. Sorting through my files, I have one report says $50k, another says $40k and another says $33k. Maybe I have the facts wrong. I do know that there were many therapists at this weekend event that are not making a living wage doing massage, even though they would like to. I do know there are around 350,000 massage therapists in the U.S. but apparently 240,000 practicing. So I wonder if that wage reflects the fact that there are many "active" therapists who are not currently practicing?

U.S. Census says the average is $37,000, taken from a poll of 34,000 working therapists. But I can count on one hand the number of therapists that I know personally who make that much money. And another hand for those that make far more. However, when I think of all the therapists I know who currently see only 5-7 clients a week, it's a very long list.

Or... maybe it was net.

OTOH, I just spent the weekend with over 100 therapists, the majority of whom are working parttime, and the many of them are "waiting" to become busier.

I've seen you mention this now a couple of times; it sounds interesting. Can you share with us what the conference was please? I might have missed the title...

The conference was the OMTA (Oregon Massage Therapist Association) annual conference at Breitenbush Hotsprings. This was my first year, it was a great group.

OMTA is not associated with AMTA, though they do have a very loose working arrangement with ABMP (since ABMP supports small alternative associations like "State" groups.)
