Notice how the police never report their fellow officers for wrongdoing?

I remember when the police pointed a gun at me and threatened to shoot me.

But just goes to show how important it is to have real civilian oversight of the police, something that Toronto (and I bet every Canadian city) has always lacked.

I covered cop disciplinary hearings and they were the biggest load of b.s. Cops got away with everything and probably still do. That does not mean I buy into the 60% figure quoted above--I don't know that--but I've had enough personal experiences with cops to believe there's a cultural problem.

True. A lot of police work is done indoors in their offices, unseen and behind the scenes. Outdoors in public, is only a small part of police work.

Call the police and tell them you want them to protect you for things you think might happen in the future.

They won't do it.

They will only responde once a crime is in progress.
By then, it's too late though.

they investigate frauds after they’ve happened.

they investigate murders after they’ve happened.

They investigate human trafficking and child abuse after its happened.

Yes, some of their “police work” might stop additional crimes from being committed, but they police don’t get involved until someone has alerted them to a crime.

When you get stopped by the police, the best thing to do is wait for them to talk and then answer their question politely, but with a question.

If the officer asks:

Do you know why I stopped you

You say:

Are you saying you don't know why you stopped me and therefore are requesting my assistance identifying a reason?

If the officer asks:

Are you on any drugs?

You say:

What behaviour am I exhibiting that would cause you to conclude I am on drugs?


The officer will get the message real quick that you are not going to be taken advantage of.

And if you have a phone, record the interaction and tell the officer you are doing so to ensure your safety.

Also tell the officer than any conduct or information he discloses during the stop may be used against him in a court of law.
And tell the officer that your recording is being uploaded to a cloud server in real time, so it can't be confiscated.

Your goal is to protect yourself from his potentially abusive show of force.
Don't be rude or raise your voice.
Just be very calm and factual.

If the officer thinks he can abuse you, he will.
If the officer thinks he can't abuse you, he won't.

There is no good or bad officer, only predators looking for an opportunity to score.

Never fight with an officer, verbally or phyically.
That will give him an opportunity to abuse you, beat you or kill you.

Your end goal is to survive the encounter and get before a judge, where the officer has very little power.
On the street, the officer has ultimate power.
Don't try to win the confrontation on the street.
Just try to protect yourself.

Just be polite, calm and factual.
Answer questions with a question.
Show him you are of sound mind and that you are aware.

Try to wrap up the interaction and get before a judge where you have a much better chance than on the street.

They knew they were going to be fired, so they left that police force.
